Day 2

Nearly 24 hours have past since Project Give-A-Book’s launch. In addition to the massive response we experienced within the first few hours, the following has since taken place:

+Miller Children’s Hospital confirmed participation as a Giving Partner, opening their doors to Project Give-A-Book on December 21st. Five of us will be distributing the books to children battling cancer and other medical conditions, confined to the hospital (some to their beds) during this holiday season. We will be reading them stories and helping them design their very own artistic rendition of the Project Give-A-Book emblem.

+Miss Long Beach 2007 has confirmed she will be in attendance for this project, accompanying Miss Long Beach 2011 and others.

+A total of 36 people have confirmed they will participate in giving new books, along with 21 others who will potentially contribute. (Via our Facebook Event Page)

Overall, Project Give-A-Book is already a success. To place a new book into the hands of just one child would have made this project well worth it; if we continue at this rate, we will be able to give more than 100 books this holiday season.

If you are interested in contributing, feel free to contact us at ProjectGiveABook@gmail.com.

December 1st: Day 1

Today (actually, this evening) marks the very beginning of Project Give-A-Book. Our first project is entitled “Project Give-A-Book: Holiday Edition” and is aiming to raise 100 New Children’s Books by the 24th of December

So far Project Give-A-Book has a community page on Facebook, an event page on Facebook, a twitter account, an email address (ProjectGiveABook@gmail.com), a temporary logo, a registered domain name (which will be up and running within 72 hours), and supporters with books on the way. The response is overwhelming, given Project Give-A-Book has been public for roughly two hours.

What does this all mean?

Yes, I am aiming to raise 100 books by Christmas Eve. However, Project Give-A-Book is intended to be a much larger project in the coming years. If we can place new books into the hands of children living in poverty and/or suffering from medical conditions this Christmas, there is no reason why we cannot continue doing so in a much larger scale every Christmas from here on out. If Long Beach can do this, why can’t other communities?

The response we have already experienced is tremendous - let’s keep this momentum as we move forward. There are 24 days until Christmas; today is Day 1.
